Canadian Credit Cards

Recently, I have started to explore new credit card rewards. As Mastercard continues to change their fee structure on World Elite cards, and as my core cards diluted I decided to look for the best cards for my daily purchases.

My conclusion was the RBC Avion Visa Infinite (35,000 bonus points, $120 annual fee + $50 supplemental card fee) or RBC Avion Visa Infinite Privilege (35,000 bonus points, $399 annual fee + $99 supplemental card fee).

During my analysis, I did weigh the qualitative perks as high as the quantitative.

My main reasons were:

- established banking relationship with RBC with a great suite of products and services (albeit it not the cheapest, but the best that I have found), with this established relationship, RBC takes care of all my banking business needs with no hassles

- great travel rewards with no black outs and fairly easy to redeem (max % return is 2.33% on the infinite and 2.92% for the infinite privilege)

- well established program which has had very little change (at my stage in life I am not interested in churning cards or switching every year to a new card just to get the best % rewards

- best benefits that I found out of the cards, all of them are completive, but I liked the exclusivity of the Infinite Privilege as well as some very important perks (lounge access, 25% more avion points, 2 additional years of warrantee, cell phone protection, best travel insurance coverage, great purchase protection insurance)

My secondary card for places that do not take Visa (such as Costco) is the Canadian Tires World Elite Mastercard. Free card, 1% return or more at the Canadian Tires family of stores, free road side, and ability to pay certain bills through the card (property tax and utilities)

Like all Professional Accountants do, I have analyzed all the cards, but I will not bore you with the details. Post a comment or send me a message if you have any questions!
